Judy Dong, an instructor at the Manhattan Kayak Company (MKC) who has been paddling with the boathouse since 2017, was shocked when she saw a sheen of oil floating in the embayment next to Pier 84 on Wednesday, March 27. The sighting of oil on the Hudson River came more than a week before gallons of oil leaked from the Con Edison facility at 59th Street.
