Reported rapes in Midtown North — the Hell’s Kitchen precinct — have soared more than 300% so far this year, a spike far beyond the citywide 22% increase. Officials attribute part of the rise to a change in New York’s legal definition of rape, which took effect last September, expanding the law to cover a broader range of nonconsensual acts.
